Applications for the 2024 HFS Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program are now being accepted online from current Big Island high school seniors in the graduating class of 2024 and existing college students.
This year, the credit union has increased the amount of each scholarship to $3,000 each and will be awarding scholarships to 10 Big Island graduating seniors and five current college students.
A total of $45,000 will be awarded to qualified applicants who are the future positive contributors and leaders in our community.
Student members of HFS pursuing higher education full-time at an accredited two- or four-year vocational-technical school, college or university in the 2024-25 academic year are eligible to apply.
Recipients will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, achievements and community service.
For a complete list of requirements and to apply students may visit hfsfcu.org or inquire with their high school counselors.
Completed applications with supporting documents must be submitted online no later than Thursday, Feb. 29.
Since 2012, HFS has helped to relieve some of the financial stress that comes with pursuing a college degree by awarding over 100 scholarships to student members totaling over $244,000.
Previous recipients and applicants have expressed their desire to pursue a college degree so they can return to the Big Island to serve the community and take care of the land and people they grew up with.
